Men’s Domestic Abuse Program
The Men’s Domestic Abuse Program is a continuously running, co-facilitated group that is 27 weeks long. The program uses the Duluth model, which is Domestic Abuse Intervention, to reduce domestic violence against women. The group is for men who have been Court-ordered to complete a domestic abuse counseling program, are involved in a child protection case, or self-referrals deemed appropriate by the facilitators. The program meets statutory requirements for Domestic Violence programming under MSS 518B.02 subd 2.The program is broken down into 10 sections covering topics of non-violence, non-threatening behavior, respect, trust and support, honesty and accountability, responsible parenting, shared responsibility, economic partnership, sexual respect, and negotiation and fairness. The main focus is to have the participants look at their beliefs on how relationships work, women, and their own behavior because beliefs drive actions. Therefore, beliefs need to be evaluated and/or changed in order to have healthy relationships.
